In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India has decided to cancel the online format of the Advocate-on-Record (AOR) examination due to severe technical issues experienced during the first paper held on Monday. This decision was announced by the Chief Justice of India following numerous complaints from lawyers regarding the technical disruptions in the online exam.

The examination took place at the Guru Hargobind Institute of Management & Information Technology in Anand Vihar, Delhi. Candidates faced critical technical problems, with many unable to start or submit their answers due to computer malfunctions. For some, the system crashed about 2.5 hours into the exam, causing significant disruptions. The paper affected by these issues was on Practice and Procedure.

In recent remarks during a farewell gathering for Justice A.S. Bopanna, the Chief Justice noted that the Supreme Court had previously decided not to count the 2021 AOR exam attempt as an official attempt, given the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has expressed serious concerns about the abrupt shift back to a physical exam format. In a letter to the Supreme Court's Secretary General, SCAORA emphasized the unreasonable nature of such a sudden change, highlighting the different preparations required for online versus offline exams.

Additionally, SCAORA pointed out the inadequate facilities at the exam venue, including poor ventilation, which caused significant discomfort for the candidates. This unexpected shift and the accompanying logistical issues have understandably left many aspirants feeling frustrated and unprepared.
