Within the premises of the highest court, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has formally asked Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud to take into consideration the placement of statues commemorating India's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, and its first Chief Justice, H J Kania.
SCBA Secretary Rohit Pandey stressed the importance of remembering these founding members of the Indian republic and judiciary in a letter dated April 26. The planned statues are meant to be positioned next to Gates C and D, bringing more aesthetic and historical significance to the area that is currently being beautified.
"This initiative celebrates the rich history of our judicial and governmental institutions, honoring their enduring legacies while also inspiring members and visitors to the court," the letter stated.
The SCBA has asked for the Chief Justice’s support in directing the relevant departments to assess and possibly undertake the installation of these statues.
