In a significant consumer rights case, a fueling error at an Indian Oil Corporation station in Warangal, Telangana, led to a substantial financial settlement. On July 30, 2022, Meenakshi Naidu's petrol car was mistakenly filled with diesel, causing severe mechanical problems and triggering a lengthy legal battle.

Shortly after refueling, Ms. Naidu experienced major issues with her car. It began making loud engine noises and struggled to function properly. She had to rush to a repair center in Hyderabad, where technicians confirmed that the damage was due to the diesel mistakenly pumped into her petrol vehicle. The repairs were estimated to cost ?6,381.

Upon realizing the error, Ms. Naidu filed a formal complaint against the fuel station, asserting that despite clear indications for petrol only, diesel was dispensed. The station defended itself by arguing that any problems should have been reported immediately.

The case eventually reached the District Consumer Court, where, after two years of hearings, the court ruled in Ms. Naidu's favor. Recognizing the severity of the operator's negligence, the court ordered Indian Oil Corporation to pay ?26,000 in damages to Ms. Naidu.
