In a concerning situation from South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, senior judicial officers at the Diamond Harbour Sub-divisional court have raised serious concerns about their safety. A letter from the District Judge of South 24 Parganas, addressed to the Calcutta High Court Registrar (Inspection), detailed several troubling incidents that have left judges vulnerable.

According to the letter, groups of miscreants have been spotted loitering around the judges' residences late at night. These individuals, allegedly with some police backing, have caused disturbances, including cutting off electricity, seemingly to intimidate the judges. The timing of these incidents has raised suspicions, especially as the targeted judges have recently ruled on sensitive POCSO cases. There is growing fear that these actions are intended to pressure them into delivering favorable verdicts under duress.

Three senior judges have voiced their concerns, fearing that these disruptions may be part of a larger attempt to undermine their impartiality. Despite reaching out to local police for help, their requests were reportedly met with minimal response, leaving them to fend for their own safety and raising questions about the police’s role in the matter.

The District Judge’s letter strongly emphasized that such incidents jeopardize the security of the judges and could be an effort to instill fear within the judiciary. The Calcutta High Court has yet to respond to the complaint, but this situation highlights the growing risks faced by the judiciary, particularly in cases that stir intense public emotions and backlash. Immediate action is needed to protect the judges and preserve the integrity of the legal system.
