As the Supreme Court of India reopened after its summer recess, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at modernizing the court's infrastructure and enhancing the experience for both litigants and advocates.
During the break, over 40 initiatives were launched to upgrade the court's facilities. Notable among these are:
1. Air conditioning in the corridors outside Court Nos. 1-5, designed in collaboration with IIT Delhi and other organizations, ensuring a more comfortable environment for those waiting.
2. The restoration of the advocates' waiting room, providing a dedicated space for legal professionals to prepare and confer.
3. Ongoing work on the women's Bar room, catering specifically to the needs of female legal practitioners.
4. The construction of advocates' cubicles, offering private workspaces within the court premises.
The Supreme Court has also embraced digital technology by introducing paperless courtrooms. The first three courtrooms now feature advanced video conferencing systems, LED video walls, and document cameras to clearly display physical documents. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is now available for lawyers and visitors, improving connectivity and access to digital resources.
These upgrades reflect the Supreme Court's commitment to modernizing its facilities and leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the justice system. As the court resumes its operations, these enhancements are expected to significantly improve legal professionals' working environment and the litigants' overall experience.
