The Bar Council of India (BCI) has introduced stricter regulations for law colleges and universities, aiming to boost transparency and maintain high ethical standards in legal education.
Criminal Background Checks and Declarations
Law students must now disclose any criminal involvement, including FIRs, past convictions, or acquittals. Failing to provide accurate information could lead to severe consequences, such as withholding degrees or marksheets.
Academic and Degree Regulations
The BCI has reinforced that students cannot pursue another degree simultaneously with their LLB, ensuring full focus on their legal studies. Non-compliance may result in the denial of academic credentials.
Employment and Attendance Requirements
Employed students are required to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer. Additionally, attendance rules are to be strictly followed, with discrepancies reported to the BCI.
Technological Compliance
To enforce these rules, law institutions must install biometric attendance systems and CCTV cameras, with footage stored for up to a year for monitoring purposes.
These measures reflect BCI’s commitment to upholding integrity within the legal profession.
