In a recent announcement, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has opened the doors for final semester students of both three-year and five-year LL.B. programs to take part in the upcoming All India Bar Examination (AIBE-XIX), scheduled for November 24, 2024. This move comes in response to a Supreme Court directive aimed at making the exam more accessible, especially after administrative delays caused by the pandemic.
Traditionally, candidates needed to secure their enrolment certificates to be eligible for the AIBE. However, understanding the difficulties faced by final-year students in obtaining these certificates on time, the BCI has relaxed the rules. Now, students without enrolment certificates, provided they have no backlogs, are allowed to register for the exam.
Important Dates and Deadlines for AIBE-XIX
Aspirants must submit their applications by October 25, 2024, through the official BCI website, which also provides comprehensive guidelines and the exam syllabus. Admit cards for AIBE 2024 will be available from November 18. Candidates also have until October 30 to make any necessary corrections to their application forms.
Eligibility Criteria for AIBE-XIX
To be eligible for the AIBE-XIX, candidates must hold a law degree, either three-year or five-year, from a BCI-approved institution. Additionally, they must be enrolled with a State Bar Council as advocates. There is no upper age limit for the exam, and candidates are free to attempt the AIBE as many times as needed until they pass.
This decision by the BCI offers a sense of relief and opportunity to many aspiring lawyers, allowing them to move forward with their legal careers without unnecessary delays.
