Arjan Ram Meghwal, now 70, remains one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's most trusted aides, continuing his role as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Law and Justice in the new government. Recognizable by his distinctive green and orange turban, Meghwal is often seen seated just behind Modi in the second row of Parliament.

Hailing from the village of Kishmidesar in Rajasthan's Bikaner district, Meghwal has deep roots in the RSS and belongs to the Dalit community. Despite the challenges, including his father urging him to drop out of school due to his academic struggles, Meghwal persevered. His determination led him to become an IAS officer, a significant achievement against the odds.

Meghwal's educational journey is notable; he studied Arts and law at Sri Dungar College in Bikaner and earned an MBA from the Philippines University. Known for his simplicity and environmental consciousness, he was once known to cycle to Parliament.

In 2023, Meghwal stepped into the crucial role of Law Minister. His political career began in 2009 after he resigned as a district magistrate in Rajasthan. Since then, he has held various significant portfolios, including Culture, Water Resources, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Heavy Industries, Public Enterprises, and Parliamentary Affairs.

As the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Meghwal played a vital role in passing major legislation, such as the abrogation of Article 370 and the Citizenship Amendment Act. In recognition of his contributions, he received the best Parliamentarian award in 2013 and became the BJP's chief whip in 2014. Known for his effective floor management, Meghwal is adept at building consensus and ensuring the necessary support for bill passage. In September 2023, he introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhintyam, a landmark bill reserving 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.

Despite his low profile, Meghwal remains accessible and genial, reflecting his humble beginnings and commitment to public service.
